For the Brief
We were commissioned by FABRIC to film Applause Youth Dance Festival (AYDF) 2026—a regional celebration of youth dance held at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall. As the Midlands U.Dance Regional Platform, the festival brought together dancers aged 11–24 from a wide range of backgrounds, dance styles, and experience levels.
Our role was to document the evening showcase performances across both festival dates using a static performance capture setup. Each performance needed to be carefully segmented into individual chapters for review by a national selection panel as part of the wider U.Dance programme. Accuracy, consistency, and clear stage coverage were essential to ensure each group’s choreography and performance could be fairly assessed.
For the Style
The filming approach was clean, stable, and performance-focused. Using a locked-off camera setup, we prioritised uninterrupted coverage of choreography, spacing, formations, and transitions across the large concert hall stage. The visual style remained intentionally unobtrusive, allowing the dancers’ movement and stage presence to remain the focus.
Particular attention was given to framing and exposure due to the varying lighting states and performance styles throughout the festival. The final edits were structured clearly and consistently, with each dance group separated into accessible chapters for ease of review and archival.

For the Result
ForFourth successfully delivered complete filmed coverage across both festival evenings, alongside segmented edits prepared for the national review process. The collaboration was smooth from planning through to delivery, with the FABRIC team sharing positive feedback following completion of the project.
"Just to say it was lovely and very smooth working with ForFourth and your Head of Video Production again and a big thank you."
The resulting footage now serves as both a formal submission resource and a lasting record of the creativity and talent showcased throughout AYDF 2026.
