For the Brief
We were commissioned by Fifth Word to co-deliver the film strand of See Me, a living oral history project led in collaboration with Nottingham Libraries and supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project trained Muslim girls aged 15–22 in oral history, audio recording, film, and photography to equip them with the skills to interview and document the stories of inspirational Muslim women across Nottingham. ForFourth facilitated hands-on filmmaking workshops, filmed eight individual oral history interviews across various locations, and produced a documentary capturing the essence of the project from training to exhibition.
In addition, we provided documentary-style photography throughout the programme’s lifecycle—including the training sessions, interviews, exhibition launch at Nottingham Central Library, and the Liberation Squares press night at Nottingham Playhouse.
For the Style
The visual and editorial style was personal, reflective, and grounded in the voices of the young participants and their interviewees. Each oral history film was carefully lit and framed to reflect the warmth and individuality of each woman’s story, with editing that preserved the pace and authenticity of a natural conversation. The documentary film was structured around the journey of the project, blending candid workshop footage, interview excerpts, and live reactions at the exhibition and theatre events.
Photography was handled with discretion and focus—capturing intimate learning moments, portraiture in action, and community celebration. Each gallery served a specific purpose: behind-the-scenes training, interview days, exhibition opening, and the Liberation Squares press launch.

For the Result
The final outputs included eight fully edited oral history interviews for Nottingham Libraries' archive, a short documentary film, and a wide-ranging photo archive of the project. These assets were featured at key exhibition and theatre events, and serve as lasting documentation of the community engagement and skills development at the heart of See Me. The work helped shape how the oral histories were shared with the wider public—through touring exhibitions, podcast releases, and live screenings.
